What We Pack for a Fall Weekend at the Cabin (And the one thing we always forget)
Every fall cabin weekend starts with big plans to pack light, and every one of them ends with a jammed trunk.
October in the Kootenays is quiet and it's a completely different packing experience compared to the summer.
After enough years of overpacking for it, and somehow still forgetting something, we've figured out what deserves a spot in the bag. Here's our honest advice.

1. The Warm Clothing Layers
The Heavy Knit: Required for morning coffee on the deck.
Flannel: Mountain weather changes fast. You'll be in three layers by noon and down to one by 2:00 PM.
Cozy Pants: Fleece, flannel, or beat-up sweatpants. Nobody's judging style after 5:00 PM.
Footwear: Blundstones for the trail, slip-ons for the porch, and thick wool socks for inside.
2. Cabin Essentials
Good Coffee: Crucial for quiet, frosty mornings.
Red Wine and Board Games: Fuel for a long night by the fireplace.
A Book: It'll sit on the side table while you nap, but bring it anyway.
3. The One Thing We Always Forget
The secret to a peaceful stay indoors or outdoors? A second blanket!
It's the one you swore you put by the front door, and it's still sitting there at home while you're on the couch at 10pm wanting just an extra layer of coziness. Don't forget it!
Turn Your Stay Into Your Second Home.
Hauling bags back and forth can still take the shine off a weekend getaway. Between playing Tetris with the trunk on the way out and unpacking damp coats on Sunday night, the whole thing starts to feel like work.
Owning a cabin at Kokanee Springs changes that.
The golf course takes the winter off, but your place is ready whenever you are. Your heavy sweaters are already in the drawers, the woodpile is stacked, and the pantry has the basics. A weekend trip means grabbing your keys, picking up groceries on the drive, and opening your own front door.
And that second blanket? Keep one folded at the foot of the bed all winter, and you'll never have to remember it again!
