Hundreds of species of birds can be seen throughout the Crawford Bay Kootenay Lake region in the warm seasons. At the Crawford Bay Wetlands you will find an excellent bird habitat with many interesting species. The Kootenay Lake valley is also situated on a major flyway for migrating birds and other wildlife. Along Highway 3, you’ll find a wealth of birding opportunities, especially at Kokanee Creek Provincial Park where well over 180 bird species have been recorded. Almost 200 bird species have also been sighted at the nearby Kootenay National Park, including the Purple Finch, Western Meadowlark, American Robin and Red-eyed Vireo.
