From Calgary travel to Cranbrook B.C. via the Crowsnest Pass (south) or via the Banff/Radium highway (north) and take Highway 3A north along Kootenay Lake. Either way is just 575 km from Calgary.

From Edmonton travel south to Calgary then to Cranbrook B.C. via the Crowsnest Pass (south) or via the Banff/Radium highway (north) and take Highway 3A north along Kootenay Lake.
Penticton - 5 hours
From Penticton head south on Hwy 97 to Hwy 3 then east to Castlegar. Here you can continue south east along Hwy 3 to Salmo and Creston, then north on Hwy 3A for an hour drive up the scenic east shore of Kootenay Lake. At Castlegar you can alternatively take Hwy 3A north east to Nelson, then Balfour, where you can take the free ferry across Kootenay Lake to Kootenay Bay, and then the short drive to Crawford Bay.
Kelowna - 5.5 hours
From Kelowna head south on Hwy 33 to Rock Creek then head east on Hwy 3 to Castlegar. Here you can continue south east along Hwy 3 to Salmo and Creston, then north on Hwy 3A for an hour drive up the scenic east shore of Kootenay Lake. At Castlegar you can alternatively take Hwy 3A north east to Nelson, then Balfour, where you can take the free ferry across Kootenay Lake to Kootenay Bay, and then the short drive to Crawford Bay.
